What is the Quantum Medicine Wheel, and Where Does Shamanic Healing Fit In?

The medicine wheel is a shamanic healing and wisdom framework rooted in oral traditions that have been passed down for thousands of years. The specific lineage I was trained in comes from the Q'ero people of Peru, and it centers on the four cardinal directions. Each direction holda its own teachings, practices, energetic medicine, and an invitation for the person doing the work.

Each direction is an open doorway. Beginning in the South and finishing in the East, you move through the directions in a specific sequence because each direction builds on the last. You can't skip a direction any more than you can skip winter if you don't like the cold. The medicine wheel gives you tools and teaches you how to build your own map.

The teachings include the oral traditions, ceremonies, and energetic rites that have been passed down through generations of healers before me. (Rites, as in sacred initiations that transmit energy and open new levels of awareness.) These are practices with real, measurable effects on the human nervous system and psyche.

Where These Medicine Wheel Teachings Come From

I want to be really clear about something here: I am a modern-day Shaman who was trained in an ancient Peruvian tradition. I am not Q'ero or even from Peru. I carry these teachings with deep reverence for the lineage they come from, and I teach them from the same place.

What I've added is the science layer. The original teachings are whole and complete on their own. I didn't need to fix them or improve them because they didn't need it. I've spent decades learning why they work at the level of the brain, the nervous system, and the quantum field, because that understanding is what allowed me to trust them completely, and it's what allows my students to trust them too.

A lot of the women I work with are highly intelligent, analytically wired, deeply spiritual, and also just a little bit skeptical. I am too, and it's because of us that I believe the science proof is important. We want the woo and we want to understand the mechanism behind it. They're not willing to just take everything on faith. And honestly? Neither am I.

It's never been enough for me to know that something works.

I've always needed to know why.

Why I Added the Science, And Why It Took Decades

I've been studying neuroscience since I was nine years old. I started because of a medical innovator named Dr. John Upledger, founder of the Upledger Institute International became my Mom's doctor. He was treating her for chronic nerve pain caused by a car accident. Seeing how he helped her fascinated me, and I would spend hours sitting at my desk with one of his textbooks and a dictionary. I wanted to understand how he was helping her. His hands-on instruction during her appointments, and his encouragement that I was gifted at that young age taught me that questioning and asking for proof is good. He taught me so much about how the brain processes trauma and stress long before I had the vocabulary for any of it.

At 14 I was drawn away from religion and towards spirituality. For as long as I can remember, I've been able to see things that other people can't see. The final straw for leaving the church was seeing something malevolent controlling our pastor. I didn't quite know what to do, but I knew I didn't want him teaching me anything! I had a conversation with my parents on the way home and they agreed that I could stop going to church. So long as I continued studying to find what I did believe. I began to test things that other people seemed to accept on faith but that I needed to feel in my body or experience to believe. I began relying more on my intuition, and allowing it to lead me and testing the truth of it.

My first year of college, sitting in Psychology 101 as we discussed how beliefs form, I found my third lifelong fascination. Finding out why smart people repeat patterns and behaviors they hate fueled my final paper of the class. That same year my science professor introduced me to quantum physics. I was waiting for him during his office hours and perusing his library. I pulled The Ghost in the Atom off his shelf and read the back cover. I borrowed that book and read it. Then hit the college library looking for more. Here was modern science describing what the spiritual traditions had been saying in different words for thousands of years.

This need to know why things work is where my decades of studying neuroscience, quantum physics, and human behavioral psychology came into play. And it turns out that modern science has a lot to say about why ancient shamanic healing practices do exactly what they do!

The Quantum Medicine Wheel is those original medicine wheel teachings, the lineage, the ceremony, the energetic rites, taught through the lens of modern-day science. It's the spiritual traditions and the science together.

Where Neuroscience and Spirituality Meet in the Brain

Let's start with neurons. We know that neurons that fire together wire together. This concept was first posited by neuropsychologist Donald Hebb in 1949 and is now foundational in modern neuroscience. Every time you think a thought, feel a feeling, or repeat a behavior, the neurons involved in that experience fire simultaneously and the connection between them strengthens. Over time, those connections get coated in myelin, a fatty substance that protects the neuronal connection and makes the signal faster and more automatic.

That's how beliefs get encoded. That's how a woman can intellectually know she is capable and still find herself paralyzed by doubt. Her practiced doubt pathways have been firing together for so much longer than the confidence pathways that they take precendence. The myelin sheath's job is to protect and maintain the pathways that get used the most. It doesn't care which pathways are preferred.

The shamanic practices inside the Quantum Medicine Wheel create new firing patterns that are spiritually meaningful and neurologically significant. They create new pathways in the brain while disrupting the old ones.

The RAS: Your Brain's Bouncer

The other neuroscience piece I come back to constantly is the reticular activating system, or the RAS. The RAS is the part of your brain that decides what you notice and what you don't. I think the best plain language description I've ever heard comes from Mel Robbins. She describes the RAS as the bouncer of your brain. It decides who gets in and who stays out.

We only consciously notice a small percentage of what's happening around us at any given time. The vast majority of repetitive or familiar stimuli gets filtered out. Your brain does this because if it didn't, you'd be in a constant state of overwhelm. The reticular activating system is a survival mechanism. It keeps you sane by making you selectively unaware.

You've already experienced this whether you know it or not. Think about the last time you decided you wanted a specific car. Suddenly that car was everywhere, on the road next to you, in parking lots, crossing traffic ahead of you. The car was always there. You just never noticed it before because your RAS had no reason to flag it as important. The moment you decided it mattered, the RAS started letting it in.

The Quantum Medicine Wheel includes specific practices that help you program your RAS intentionally, so it starts noticing evidence for what you're creating instead of evidence for what you've always had. When your RAS is calibrated to look for possibility and opportunities that are right for you, it finds them. Just like the car was always there, the potential for possibilities and opportunities are always there too. Your brain is just filtering them out.

Quantum Physics: The Field of Infinite Possibility

Quantum physics describes overlapping infinite fields of potential that underlie all physical reality. It is, in the most literal scientific sense, an infinite field of subatomic particle possibility. Nothing has collapsed into a fixed outcome until it is observed. The observer changes what is observed, demonstrations of which date back to the double-slit experiment with light conducted by Thomas Young in 1801. His orignal study has been reproduced and expanded upon in laboratories around the world ever since that show that observing light photons change their form from wave to particle when observed. When photons of light are fired through two slits onto a light reactive backing and observed, the photons land in completely different patterns.

What the shamanic traditions have always known is what quantum physics now confirms: that consciousness participates in creating reality, that energy precedes form, and that your attention matters at a level that is observable.

The energetic rites and shamanic journeys of the medicine wheel work in this field. When your RAS is programmed to notice evidence that what you're creating is already possible, already present as potential in the quantum field, you start to experience what looks like coincidence but is actually coherence.

Behavioral Psychology: How Patterns Get Encoded and Changed

Behavioral psychology gives us the mechanism for why so many intelligent, capable women stay stuck in patterns that ultimately hurt them, even when they desperately want to change. The short answer is: the subconscious mind doesn't respond to logic.

You can know intellectually that you are safe, loved, capable, and worthy, and your subconscious can still be running a completely different program underneath that knowledge. That program is a survival adaptation that got encoded when it was genuinely useful and simply never got updated.

The Quantum Medicine Wheel works at the level where those programs live. The ceremonies, the journeys, the practices in each direction go underneath the intellectual layer, into the part of the brain where the old patterns are actually stored. I spent years in traditional talk therapy, and I could articulate beautifully exactly what my patterns were and where they came from. It wasn't until I began implementing the teachings of the medicine wheel that things started to change. In my experience, understanding a pattern and rewiring a pattern are two very different things.

Who This Is For

The Quantum Medicine Wheel is for the woman who wants both. She wants the depth of spiritual work and the understanding of why it works. She's not willing to leave her intelligence at the door in order to access her intuition.

She may have some indigenous heritage she's exploring. She may be deeply spiritual already and looking for a framework that can hold all of it. Without any of it asking her to choose. She may be a woman entrepreneur who is successful on paper and privately exhausted and ready for something that works at a level she hasn't been able to reach before.

She's ready to stop asking "does this work?" and instead experiment and find her own proof, building on the proof of other's before her.

If that's you, start with the Clear Your Mental Clutter shamanic journey. It's free and it gives you a direct experience of what working in this framework actually feels like, in your body, before you decide anything else.Get it here.

And when you're ready to go deeper, the Quantum Medicine Wheel is waiting.Learn more here.
